FAQs

HOW CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUR SERVICES AND PROCESS?

I encourage you to reach out directly and book a call if you are interested in learning more about my services and process to see if we might be a good fit. I love chatting with other business owners and creatives about their up and coming projects. My process is very collaborative and getting in touch early ensures I can offer guidance as we plan your shoot if required. In most cases, while on location, I shoot tethered to a laptop, so we can view the images in real time and work together to create great compositions. You’ll approve the shots as we go, which ensures that we cover all the important elements of the project that you want to highlight.

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE FOR MY SHOOT?

Generally the more ‘photo-ready’ the space is before I arrive, the more efficiently we can use our time. You can find details here about how to prepare your space and what to expect when working with me.

HOW CAN I LEARN ABOUT YOUR PRICING?

Reach out to learn more about my pricing. Rates depend on the type and size of the project, number of images and licensing required depending on the intended usage. Investments start at $600 +HST.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I REACH OUT?

The sooner you connect about an upcoming project the better, that way I can be sure to hold some space for you on my calendar. I recommend reaching out at least 3-4 weeks ahead. If you need particular date, it is always best to secure it as far in advance as possible. I always try and keep some flexibility in my schedule to accommodate changes if we need to move a date due to weather or a completion delay. Also note that some months are busier than others - May, June, Sept & October tend to be busiest.

WHAT IS LICENSING?

When you hire a photographer, you are hiring for their technical and creative interpretation of the subject being photographed. The resulting images are then protected under Canadian copyright law and owned by the photographer. The image license is the permission for you to use the image(s) for specific purposes. Unless a transfer is expressly stated, the copyright of the images created remains owned by the photographer. Anyone who wishes to use the images requires a licence from the photographer to do so.

The ability to re-license images is part of a photographer's business model and part of what makes a career as a freelance photographer sustainable long term. It allows a photographer to generate income from their work product without having to regularly increase rates to clients.

WHAT IS COST SHARING?

Cost-sharing allows multiple parties that worked on a project to share the cost of the photoshoot and the images to market their business'. In design build projects, some parities that might participate in a cost-share include: architect, interior designer, engineer, contractor, home builder, tradesperson, decorator, stylist, landscaper, art consultant or installer etc. The cost of the photography service and post-production is shared amongst the participating parties, and an additional licensing fee per party is then added. This provides a reduced rate for all parties and can also be less disruptive for your clients as only one photoshoot needs to be arranged. All parties partaking are consulted prior to the shoot to ensure that we capture content that serves all parties.

If a party is not interested in the whole project, they can purchase licenses to individual images after the shoot, but it won’t be at the discounted ‘cost-share’ rate.

WHO IS CONSIDERED A THIRD PARTY?

A third party is a company that is not part of the initial photography agreement. Often they are a company that would like to use the images for their own promotional purposes. If they would like to use the images they can contact me directly to arrange a license. This might include other trades that worked on the project (architect, interior designer or stylist, millwork company, flooring installer, tradesperson, contractor, landscaping) or vendors who’s products are included in your projects (faucets, fixtures, stone, tile, flooring, windows, drapery, furniture, cabinetry).
